The Government Must Immediately Give a Statement on the Murder of Famous Oromo Singer Hachalu Hundessa

The HRLHA has confirmed that Hachalu Hundessa, famous Oromo singer was found murdered on June 29, 2020 around 9.30pm (evening in the local time) in the capital Addis Ababa (Finfinne) at a specific place called ‘Labu Music Shop’. The HRLHA gravely denounces such brutal killing, and extends its heartfelt condolences to Hachalu’s family and fans at large. We wish his soul rest in peace.
It is even worse saddening that this bad news was heard only a few hours after HRLHA took a report of mass killings of six Oromo youth working on coffee farm by the government security force in the Oromia region of West Wellega zone, Boji-Chokorsa district, Jammo-Tikse local administration at a particular place called ‘Sibu-Ebicha’. This latter brutal killing was similarly committed on June 29, 2020 at 9.00am (in the morning local time).
The HRLHA kindly calls upon the government of Ethiopia give a statement on the murder of artist Hachalu Hundesa and bring the perpetrators to justice as soon as possible. It is of HRLHA’s deep concern that delay or failure of the government to take immediate action would potentially provoke public grievance and lead to an unprecedented crisis.
