INVITATION TO A CONFERENCE

HRLHA-UK, in collaboration with other Human Rights Campaigners has            organized a conference on

The State of Human Rights in the Horn of Africa, Particularly Ethiopia

Dear Friends,

The Human Rights crisis in Ethiopia is so worrying. No one seems to understand the scale of the violation. However, torture, disappearance and extrajudicial killings are common place in that country.

Right now the Ethiopian security forces are working hard to ensure, not security but make sure that every one is in complete obedience to tyranny, exploitation and all forms of human rights violation. Just in this week the Ethiopia security forces are working with the Kenyan government, arrested many refugees and are planning to send back refugees against international convention.  Leave alone illegal deportation, even assassination of refugees had been taking place in Kenya and even down up to South Africa. There seems to be no hiding place for the victims of human rights under the current regime in Ethiopia.

Peasants in certain areas are particularly targeted and expelled in broad day light from their farm land for the sake of the officials and of TPLF led government financial gain. While people are starving the government sells arable land to Chinese, Japanese and Saudi, and Indian investors which they farm to export crops from Oromia, Gambella etc. back to their country.

Further, researchers already began to clearly indicate the killings, disappearances and tortures underway in Ethiopia are not random but systematic which targeted specific people. Oromia stood first in Professor Tronvoll’s finding(Human Rights Violation in Federal Ethiopia when Ethnic Identity is a political Stigma)

Now therefore, let us come together, hear the scale of the violation from personalities who compiled the violations and could help us organize ourselves for effective campaigning.
